Wikipedia doesn’t need any introduction. It is one of the best online encyclopedia available in the world and it is free. Encyclopedia Britannica has decided to go out of print, after 244 years, on facing the realities and the competition from Wikipedia. The Encyclopedia Britannica will now focus primarily on their online services. Wikipedia has grown to be the number one free source for all. Wikipedia provides a wealth of information with over 26 billion pages of content. Many times Wikipedia has been questioned, about the accuracy of Wikipedia article. The editors of Wikipedia, popularly known as Wikipedians, are vigilant with ensuring the data in Wikipedia is current and accurate. Various studies shows that Wikipedia is almost as accurate as the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Here is an infographic from open-site, highlights how Wikipedia has revolutionized research and how it has become a reliable fountain of knowledge.

Some of the interesting factors of Wikipedia are, it has 3,881,516 articles in English Wikipedia, 27 million, 99% of Wikipedia pages rank in Google’s top 10 search results. 8 out of 10 students use Wikipedia as their first source of research and Wikipedia is the 6th most visited site and is available in 250 languages.

What is your opinion about Online Encyclopedia’s? Are you still believe in the old printed style multi volume encyclopedia? Do you think the articles in Wikipedia are authentic and accurate?
